How to use brushes in PhotoCraft

PhotoCraft 0.10.0 has a brush panel with presets and image tips. Paint with size, opacity, flow and smoothing controls; ABR import support is limited — here is what we verified.

For PhotoCraft 0.10.0. Keep the original file and check layers, fonts and the saved or exported result before relying on a complex PSD.

PhotoCraft’s brush tool lives in the toolbar, with presets, size, opacity, flow and smoothing in the options bar and a Brush Settings panel. This guide reflects what we verified in the 0.10.0 web build on this site — including what we could not verify.

Where are the brush presets?

Open the editor and select the Brush tool in the left toolbar. The options bar shows Mode, Opacity, Flow and Smoothing; the Brush Settings / Brushes panels (Window menu) list the presets, including built-in round brushes and image tips.

How do I use and adjust brushes?

  1. Select a layer to paint on (a new empty layer keeps the photo underneath safe).
  2. Pick a brush preset and set size, opacity and flow.
  3. Drag on the canvas to paint. Smoothing stabilizes strokes — higher values even out jitter.

Because you painted on a separate layer, you can hide, reorder or delete the strokes without touching the image — see working with layers.

What is the difference between image tips and ABR?

  • Image tips are stamp-like brush tips (a leaf, a texture, a shape) that repeat along the stroke. 0.10.0 includes image-tip support in its brush handling.
  • ABR files are Photoshop’s brush format. Import support is limited: not every ABR imports cleanly, and some Photoshop-specific dynamics do not translate. Do not assume a purchased ABR pack will look identical to how it looks in Photoshop.

Which ABR files can be imported?

We verified that the brush UI exists and basic painting works. We did not run a systematic ABR import matrix across many third-party packs, so treat ABR import as “works for some files, untested in general.” If an ABR fails to load or looks wrong, the practical fallback is to use the built-in tips or an image tip of your own.

Does pen pressure work?

PhotoCraft supports stylus input, and 0.10.0 includes pressure-handling code. We did not verify pressure behavior with real hardware in this build — if you rely on pressure, test it with your tablet before committing to the workflow.

What is not supported (as far as we verified)

  • No guarantee that all Photoshop brush dynamics (dual brushes, wet edges, complex tilings) reproduce identically.
  • No documented import of other brush formats besides ABR and image tips.

Brush work is one of the areas the upstream project is actively changing — check the pinned version notes on the download page and re-test after version updates.
